Since 1927, St. Jude Golf Club has welcomed golfers to its pristine and quiet greens. Pittsburgh Business Times had ranked St. Jude as a top 20 course in Western Pennsylvania. With more than 50 newly renovated bunkers and water hazards and over 70 separate teeing areas, St. Jude is a challenging course that will be enjoyed by all skill levels. The 8,000 square foot clubhouse offers a variety of amenities for golfers including men's and ladies locker rooms, a pro shop, a fully licensed bar and a fine dining restaurant, patio, conference rooms and banquet rooms.
St. Jude Golf Club owes its success and endurance to wise stewardship throughout generations of
leadership. For over 80 years the club has stood the test of time, including surviving the Great Depression in the 1930's.
Designed by renowned Architect Emil Loeffler, the golf course at St. Jude opened in 1927.
In 1979 Richard Fuhrer purchased the property and over the following years transformed St. Jude into one of the most highly recognized courses in Western Pennsylvania . With this reputation, the club attracts top amatuers as members who compete successfully at a national level.
Many of these players attribute St. Jude for honing their games to compete at such a high level. Pennsylvania's two top amateur's: Sean Knapp and Nathan Smith (Nathan won the 2009 & 2010 US Mid-Amateur) maintain club membership.
Due to the strong ties Richard Fuhrer has with the famed Oakmont Country Club, (Mr. Fuhrer was a past president of Oakmont Country Club), many matches were played at St. Jude against Oakmont members which over the years lead the Oakmont members to dubbing St. Jude as the "Oakmont of the North," comparing St. Jude's qualities to that of their own course.
In 2007 Colin Dunwoody purchased the property from the Fuhrer family due to Richard Fuhrer wanting to retire. With almost 30 years of experience in the golf industry, Mr. Dunwoody used his background to further develop the property. Improvements include: renovating and expanding the clubhouse facilities and making renovations to the golf course including the planned opening of a new practice facility for the 2012 season.
There are also plans in the future to build cottages for traveling golfers on the property with panoramic views of the golf course.
